米国議会図書館(LC)と画像共有サイトFlickrが始めた歴史的な写真のアーカイブ公開プロジェクト”The Commons”に、同国の博物館等からなるスミソニアン協会も参加すると発表されました。
The Smithsonian Institution has begun adding photo s  to “The Commons”,LC and Photo sharing service “Flickr” had started holding images publicaly.

Luis Mallo はキューバ出身、ニューヨークブルックリン在住の写真家です。ポートフォリオサイトにはいくつかプロジェクトがまとめられていますが、近年の作品、“IN CAMERA”を紹介します。端的に言うと、この作品はフェンス越しに撮影されたランドスケープフォトですが、その見せ方、見せなさ方（というものがあるとしたらですが）が、すごくいい。このプロジェクトはもう閉じてるのかわかりませんが、最新の“OPEN SECRET”も、そこから継承された思考が伺えて、興味深いです。

“The Photographs Not Taken”は、写真についての覚書を、現代の写真家の哲学的な思考や記憶からあぶりだそうとしてるサイトです。方法としては、使っているツールやテクニックなどの技術的なこと抜きで、アイデアや直感、それらへのリアクションとか記憶や経験、世界に対する認識から、写真について考えようとする、とあります。まだできたばかりのサイトみたいですけど、Alec SothやChristian Pattersonといった写真家が参加してるので、英語勉強がてら読むのは良いかもしれません。割と渋い系。

Image Fulgurator

“Image Fulgurator”は先日発表されたArs ElecronicaのInteractive Art部門でGolden Nicaを受賞した作品で、撮影された写真に別のイメージやテキストを挿入するというデバイス作品です。カメラを改造した型のデバイスで、焚かれたフラッシュに同期する形で撮影される対象に”Image Fulgurator”から別イメージが投影され、結果的に写真に残るというもの。”fulgur” がラテン語で稲光｛いなびかり｝(lightning)という意味らしいです。いろいろとデバイスそのものについて調べてみたところ、Arduinoで動いている(とか今はソフトウェアで動作するとか)とあったのですが、ほんとかな？割とシンプルな装置ぽいので、スレーブ状態で受光するセンサーがあれば問題なさそうなんだけど。ともかく、コンセプトとか理論的な点が高く評価されたようですね。デバイス持っているかんじとか、制作者本人もひげだし、そういうところからなんとなく言いたいことが伝わるものがあります。

Deleted Images
“Deleted Images”は本来ならメディアから消去するような、ピンぼけ・手ぶれ画像を掲載するブログです。セレクトしてるみたいだけど、誰でもDeletedImages@gmail.comにメールを添付すれば画像を投稿可能です。記録として保存されないイメージの集積ってコンセプトもかっこいいんだけど、普通に一枚一枚の失敗写真もその並べ方も良い。選んでるひとのセンスがすごくいいんじゃないかな。
低解像度とかノイズ、手ぶれ、ピンぼけとかグリッチな感じ、撮影者の意図から逸れた所謂”失敗”写真が、デジタルカメラの技術の発展でどんどん生まれないようになってると思うのだけれど、それが持ってる良さなり、味というものがあるんじゃないかと最近思います。メディア性というか。そういうものも含めて面白いサイトです。

SANNAH KVIST
Sannah Kvistの一番新しいブログはここにあるのですが、その良さを一言で説明するのは、すごく難しい。ただ、なんていうんだろうか、納まりの良さというか、写真の中のコンポジションのされ方が非常に心地いいし、それが並べられてる順番もいいので、見てしまうというのはあるかも。あとはストロボの使い方がすごく効果的。
彼女は“She broke my heart so I broke her face!”というブログを以前やっていて(いまはそれがold blogとしてまとめられています)そのへんもなんだかリラックスというか変な気負いが感じられなくていいです。この人もスウェーデン在住。なんかあるのかな。

“MAKE”はO’reillyから出ているDIY-erのための雑誌です。写真や映像に関する専門誌ということではないですが、サイトにはカメラや機材をハッキング、ベンディングする興味深い記事が多くあります。特にそういう記事だけピックアップして購読したい人はカテゴリ分けされているこちらやこちらが良いかもしれません。日本語版英語版両方あります。
“MAKE” is a magazine for DIY-er published by O’reilly. “MAKE” is not a specialized magazine of Visual Images, but there’s a lot of interesting articles about hacking and bending cameras and instruments. If you like to pick up those articles, this and this seem to be nicer.
