紹介するのはエリック・タブチのアルファベット・トラックです。トラックをベッヒャー以降のタイポロジーっぽくグリッド状に配置しているようにも見えるし、トラック背面に書かれている文字をグラフィックデザイン的に提示してるようにも見えます。というか両方の効果を狙ってるんだろうな。タイポロジー・ミーツ・タイポグラフィ。(サイトは今更新してる？ちらっと新作が見えたり。)。”TWENTYSIX ABANDONED GASOLINE STATIONS”

Luis Mallo はキューバ出身、ニューヨークブルックリン在住の写真家です。ポートフォリオサイトにはいくつかプロジェクトがまとめられていますが、近年の作品、“IN CAMERA”を紹介します。端的に言うと、この作品はフェンス越しに撮影されたランドスケープフォトですが、その見せ方、見せなさ方（というものがあるとしたらですが）が、すごくいい。このプロジェクトはもう閉じてるのかわかりませんが、最新の“OPEN SECRET”も、そこから継承された思考が伺えて、興味深いです。

“The Photographs Not Taken”は、写真についての覚書を、現代の写真家の哲学的な思考や記憶からあぶりだそうとしてるサイトです。方法としては、使っているツールやテクニックなどの技術的なこと抜きで、アイデアや直感、それらへのリアクションとか記憶や経験、世界に対する認識から、写真について考えようとする、とあります。まだできたばかりのサイトみたいですけど、Alec SothやChristian Pattersonといった写真家が参加してるので、英語勉強がてら読むのは良いかもしれません。割と渋い系。

Image Fulgurator

“Image Fulgurator”は先日発表されたArs ElecronicaのInteractive Art部門でGolden Nicaを受賞した作品で、撮影された写真に別のイメージやテキストを挿入するというデバイス作品です。カメラを改造した型のデバイスで、焚かれたフラッシュに同期する形で撮影される対象に”Image Fulgurator”から別イメージが投影され、結果的に写真に残るというもの。”fulgur” がラテン語で稲光｛いなびかり｝(lightning)という意味らしいです。いろいろとデバイスそのものについて調べてみたところ、Arduinoで動いている(とか今はソフトウェアで動作するとか)とあったのですが、ほんとかな？割とシンプルな装置ぽいので、スレーブ状態で受光するセンサーがあれば問題なさそうなんだけど。ともかく、コンセプトとか理論的な点が高く評価されたようですね。デバイス持っているかんじとか、制作者本人もひげだし、そういうところからなんとなく言いたいことが伝わるものがあります。

i heart photograph
“i heart photograph” は主にコンテンポラリーかつカッティング・エッジな写真を紹介する海外のサイト。なので、紹介もすべて英語なんだけれど、アップされてる写真の組をみていると、何となくその写真の良さとか通底するキュレーションのセンスというか目の良さが感じられる非常に大好きなサイトの一つです。
キュレーションしてるLaurel Ptakさんという女性へのインタビューがここ、写真家(!)でもある彼女の作品がここにあります。インタビュー記事をよんでもらえばわかると思いますが、I Heart Magazineという雑誌の創刊準備もしている様子。

先日紹介したノルウェーの写真家、Rasmus Norlanderもすごい近い時期に紹介されていました。同じソース見てたのかな、掲載写真は違うけど。

MySpace上にサムネイルだけずらずらとあがっていて、詳細不明。誰が撮ってるかもわからなりません。lastnightspartyもこうやってサムネイルがタイル上に並んでて、その量に圧倒される感じで、それに通じる今っぽさ、俗っぽさだけど、こっちの方が品があります。
I found these photos on MySpace, and didn’t know any detail of them. Who took the photographs? Like “lastnightparty”, it tiles pictures, we enjoy both volumes of photographs and get currentness, earthy feeling, but this one, Party Kids has class.
